AMERICAN SOIL
What happens when federal power meets an American street?

MINNEAPOLIS. JANUARY 2026.
American Soil documents a period of intensified federal immigration enforcement in Minneapolis and the people who encountered it.
RENÉE GOOD
On January 7, 2026, 37-year-old U.S. citizen Renée Good was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer in Minneapolis during a federal immigration enforcement operation. Video of the encounter and the government’s account of the shooting became central to a national debate over the use of federal force. Good’s family later filed civil litigation challenging the government’s account and alleging excessive force. The federal government disputes wrongdoing.
ALEX PRETTI
On January 24, 2026, 37-year-old U.S. citizen and intensive-care nurse Alex Pretti was fatally shot by federal immigration agents in Minneapolis. Video reviewed by news organizations showed Pretti holding a phone, helping or shielding people near the scene, and being pepper-sprayed before agents took him to the ground. A firearm was later removed from his possession; available video did not show him drawing it. Federal officials said agents acted in self-defense, an account challenged by video evidence, local officials and subsequent investigations.
THE IMAGE ASKS THE QUESTION.
THE RECORD PROVIDES THE CONTEXT.
WHY THIS PIECE EXISTS
This is not a piece about immigration status. Both Good and Pretti were American citizens. It is about the exercise of federal power inside an American city, the force used during enforcement operations, and what the public record shows when official accounts and documented evidence are placed side by side.
The garment does not tell you what conclusion to reach. It asks you to look.
